Travel Diaries: North Somerset
It’s safe to say this year hasn’t been what any of us planned. In fact, I can’t quite get my head around the fact that the last time I was sat blogging was in March, when we were lucky enough to have one final hurrah, before things got * weird *. Let us not dwell too much on the turbulence that has been 2020 (a generous way of putting it) , and instead look to planning for a brighter new year on the horizon.
If we’ve learnt one thing, it’s that staycations are a saving grace, especially in a worldwide pandemic. When taking flights to see the rest of the world are put on pause, we’ve come to take great appreciation for adventures closer to home. In between lockdowns 1 and 2, I was lucky enough to secure a two night escape to North Somerset. Here’s everything you need to know about your next staycation of dreams…
WHERE WE STAYED
Stoke Leigh Barn is a quaint AirBnB located just 20 minutes from Bristol airport (or a 3hr drive if you’re coming from London, like us). Found in Leigh Woods National Nature Reserve, the barn overlooks the woods and open fields, making for a breathtaking escape from city life’s hustle and bustle. The oak-framed Barn features everything you could ever need for a romantic getaway; with a private hot tub overlooking the beautiful scenery, and a cinema projector to ensure an even cosier stay, it’s hard not to fall in love with the place the moment you step inside. I was so in awe of our little escape, I didn’t actually take many photos - so most of these sneak peaks are in GIF form (apologies)…
Not only were there thoughtful surprises waiting for us in the Barn (think dressing gowns, popcorn, croissants, bubbly and much more), Lisa & Kate were incredibly helpful throughout our entire stay. Our wonderful hosts provided us with local recommendations and clear instructions on making the most of everything in the Barn. Not forgetting there’s access to Netflix, Amazon and Sky TV, all to be enjoyed with surround sound - it’s almost too good to actually even step outside and leave the snug…
WHAT WE DID
Located just a twenty minute walk to Clifton village, we spent an afternoon walking over Clifton Suspense Bridge and around the towns quirky shops. It goes without saying that walking around Leigh Woods was a must; the woods boast excellent walking and mountain bike trails. The rest of our short but sweet stay was spent flitting between the hot tub, the cinema screen and the kitchen for ultimate relaxation.
As we approach the end of this year (at long, long last) and we begin to plan with the anticipation of some normality, I hope this staycation gives you some inspiration for 2021’s adventures. Sending you & your loved ones my biggest well wishes and festive virtual cheer. Here’s to what’s hopefully on the horizon.
Where are you planning on going when we can travel properly again?
