Styling Culottes
Culottes have long been an item of clothing that I have avoided throughout my life. For some reason I have always held the belief that someone of my physique (short and curvy) should avoid wearing culottes. However nowadays they are simply unavoidable and after purchasing a few different types, it would appear that this belief of mine was just a myth and anyone can wear them! So today I thought I would share how I've styled a few different pairs.
First up are these gorgeous
from Topshop. The slouchy style with the stretchable waist means that these culottes are a relaxed fit on the legs but tight around the waistline. I find that these trousers work magic; the wide cut gives off the illusion of thinner legs by exposing only the lower third of the leg (which is typically the slimmest), while the figure-hugging waistline works to show off the slimmest part of the waist.
These culottes, whilst being super comfortable, are extremely wearable; throw on a shirt & jacket and you're set for work, put on some trainers & a tee and you can rock a comfy but stylish look, or (the look I went for today) add some heels & an elegant top and wear it for a more dressy-occasion.
The shoes I am wearing are Public Desire's
. The peep toe and lace up detailing offers this outfit a little more sophistication and class, whilst further creating the illusion of a taller physique. I also paired this outfit with an off-the-shoulder crop top from Boohoo and Whistle's
.
I often find myself getting tired of wearing dresses and skirts to more formal occasions so, next up is this stunning
from Misguided in the colour teal. This gorgeous jumpsuit is, like the Topshop culottes above, figure hugging at the waist but loose-fitting on the legs which again works wonders. The material is soft, lightweight and looks more expensive that it was!
I have paired the jumpsuit with these gorgeous white
from Public Desire. This pair of heels is ideal for formal events, as the wide heel allows for a more comfortable experience and also limits the chance of losing your balance (which we all know can be a struggle when it comes to stilettos).
Finally, sticking with formal culottes, I picked up this eye-catching
jumpsuit from Forever 21. This lightweight chevron-patterned glitter jumpsuit is perfect for any party or social event; it is extremely comfy and allows for plenty of dancing (which I have now realised I love about all culottes). Like with the Topshop culottes, I have paired this jumpsuit with my
from Public Desire.
